    Clutch Recommendations

Looking to get the clutch and flywheel replaced on my 08 E90 320d 177hp. Its not slipping yet but it is the original clutch with 250k on it and has a bit of judder from cold and notchy gear changes.
Have used Motor Confidence in the past but unfortunately they're no longer around so has anyone any recommendations of a good mechanic to replace clutch and flywheel and what would be an approx. cost?

    cheers

A LuK clutch & flywheel kit is €530+ alone and maybe €300 fitting (guessing 4-5hrs) - totally dependent on your chosen mechanic labour rate of course.....

At that mileage, you'd need to think if it's actually worth replacing tbh - what other big ticket items (if not already done) may not be far behind - timing chain/turbo/EGR/DPF/Injectors/Suspension Refreshes etc.

If you're 250k in on the original clutch, and its not slipping, I'd consider not to tempt fate by taking it apart and think of maybe just changing the fluid to see if that helps with the judder and notchiness. Taking something a bit older apart tends to cause ripple effects imho.

That price would be ok, i was hoping sub 1k myself.
I am giving a lot of thought about whether its worth doing but i do like the car and its had the timing chain done 40k ago, egr replaced and most of the suspension is about 5k old. So that just leaves the turbo.
The price of cars has jumped so not much around i can afford that i'd actually want to drive or, in my opinion, would be a big improvement on the e90.

Yeah its not slipping and the judder does stop after a mile or so of driving. Maybe a fluid change would be a good first step, cheers.

I thought the original clutch needed doing on my first e39 at around 115k miles for similar reasons, but on my spanner man's advice we changed the fluid and I know the same clutch made it close to 190k when the buddy I sold it to at 144k sold it on. Lost sight of it then, so don't know if it was ever changed
