Oh, I've no doubt that specialist industries will pop up in time - my concern is that parts prone to failure (Batteries/ECU's/Module's/Ancillary's) seem to be all dealer only and quiet extortionate (€2.5k supply & fit for a charging port ECU issue FFS - you'd have an entire ICE engine replaced for that).

Will 3rd party OEM suppliers get onboard and create much cheaper, but equivalent quality parts ? Maybe they do already, I honestly don't know......

There's a reason why even insurance companies are charging major premiums for BEV's - the massive bills that come from even relatively minor prangs.

Well Well - it seems that we've hit somewhat of a wall now in Ireland with BEV sales at least according to https://www.independent.ie/business/...863302288.html

'some industry commentators now describing sales as “stuck in the mud” due to poor charging infrastructure and other issues.'

With Kia launching €80k BEV's (their new ID9), it comes as no surprise really. Yes, I know that's an extreme example and a family of 7 can easily fit in a much cheaper Zoe.....

Only in the good old US would they have a recall over something like this.......

"Warning lights with a smaller font size can make critical safety information on the instrument panel difficult to read, increasing the risk of a crash," the NHTSA said.

Nadia from Ashford Motors giving her current overview of the current EV Market.

As I've been saying here for quite some time, dealers don't want to know about them as trade-ins and if you have one out of manufacturers warranty, then you're very much on your own with a ticking time bomb....

Well the news doesn't get any better for EV sales here......

'Last month the number of BEVs registered was only 1,044 - a deep dive of 39.1pc on the 1,715 registrations in May 2023 - at a time when it was expected that buying would be surging.
The BEV share of the market now stands at just 13pc – down from 17pc last year and is back to 2022 levels.'

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-new...364938452.html

You'd want to be a mad man to purchase one outright new - PCP rental type setup may make sense for some but without major incentives, it seems the general consensus is to avoid for now. We're only starting to see the influx of Chinese EV's as they have massive over-production and are trying to cash in on the lucrative European market, but I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before we see additional tariffs on these entering Europe making them even less desirable.

Very interesting indeed. I’m a petrol head but, unlike a lot of other petrol heads, I’d be quite open to going down the EV route if and when it ever makes sense to do so. But it still feels like we’re a good way off before that happens, and particularly for me as someone who does a cross-country commute 2-3 days a week right now.

Well based on the Greens’ performance at these local elections it seems not many people are bothered by this climate emergency anymore..
