2012 F10 or F30 x20d - what to watch out for?

A friend is thinking of purchasing a 2012 3er (F30) or 5er (f10) for his other half.

Would x20d's of that vintage be afflicted by that BMW N47 timing belt issue or was that issue sorted or the engine modified by the tine the F10/F30 hit the market?
Or what else to watch out for?

The newer engine only came in to being in Sept '14, the B47 engine. Anything before that has the dodgy engine.

The introduction date of the B47 varied depending on the model. AFAIK it appeared on the F10 from late 2013 (noted as 190bhp cars), the F20 and F30 both got it coinciding with their LCI's in 2014.

B47 engine appeared in the F10 in June 2014 (as I have one). It only appeared in the F30 from 2015 with the facelift.

Regarding which car to go for, the F10 is a much longer/wider and heavier car than the F30 so take that into account as the F10 can be awkward or cumbersome enough to fit into car park spaces especially tight multi-story car parks. The 2.0 litre engine whether it be the N47 or B47 is ok in the F10 but much more suited to the more nimble F30. However the F10 being from the class above the F30, so has better standard equipment and is more refined while the smaller lighter F30 handles and performs better in x20d form. One thing I would recommend though is that you go automatic. The ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox is excellent and is a perfect match to the oil burner.

Typo on my part re. LCI on F20 and F30 - should have read 2015.

Realoem is showing the B47 engine appearing in the F10 from October '13 although there is more consensus about its intro being in mid'14.
