Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
One more E46 M3 with cracked boot floor ,this time its bit more as usual  ill do separate thread about this one,as looks it will be much more work involved in this one .The owner just bought the car, brought it in for service and all these bad things was investigated straight away .So here we start ,car was fully stripped out today and all sealants cleaned off to check for all cracks .All 4 sub frame fitting points are cracked ,both front and both rear ,and even more :surprised: the pictures will do some judge .first pictures are without any clean up,later ones will show all cracks, rust signs means how long ago this happened .

Its an absolute disgrace that this is happening should be fixed by bmw free of charge and regardless of age
major design flaw cars should not tear themselves in half :(

That looks really bad !!!!! Was it standard suspension?
It's not what you can buy . It's what you can build

RE: Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
Dear god! At least its been looked after now but as Gar said BMW should be standing over these regardless.

Its no more unacceptable than E36's rotting from the inside out.
If it was happening on low mileage youngs cars then it would be seen as a design problem.
This long into the cars life, BMW couldnt care one jot.
I would be interested to know if this was a worldwide issue or something confined to the crappy roads of the UK and Ireland.

It does happen on low mileage cars and the corrosion warranty is ten years on the paint from cars 2003 and up this clearly falls under corrision yet people had to fight to get it done (if they got it done) theres no excuse for it other then shabby workmanship it was poorly made id hate to see what would happen if this was just ignored
Big difference between a rusty arch and a car splitting in two john
I found the e36 to be great with regard to rust mine was 99% rust free it was an irish car though
Common in the u.s so worldwide id say

Sorry to ask this under this thread but I have a small bit of rust forming under the petrol cap where the arch meets the bumper, do I have a case as the car is an 05 or is it a lost cause ?

Il pm you to keep the thread on track
-
RE: Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
wow, I am amazed at how bad that one is. plenty of corrosion too it must have been cracked for a long time.
Is this still a weld up and reinforce job or are you going to be replacing larger sections?
-
RE: Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
90% of cracks will be covered with special plates ,other cracks will be custom fixed.in few comming days I'll update the thread .
And even very low mileage cars do crack ,think lowest one I saw was about 40k mls

RE: Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
Good thing the car came in to you for a check over and service, I'm sure the guy is annoyed in one way but happier in another. At least when repaired it shall be piece of mind for him.

The ends of double panels has some oem weld spots ,but they are very rare ,every few centimeters so i did extra holes in out side panel to get good weld between between them ,and some weld just at the edge .

Words fail me here! Did the new owner not have it inspected pre purchase? Bit of a kick in the b@lls - bitter sweet, as it'll be perfect once it leaves the doors of Valdas :D

Another badly cracked E46 M3 boot floor ,subframe repair
A friend of mine works in ace autobody (bmw approved) and said he's done a few jobs like this for bmw ireland. He has only ever done normal e46 coupes. Never an m3. I assume they would be the same tho...

As always great work Valdas.
Question and it might sound stupid,
What would happen to the car if this is not repaired and still been driven like a M3 was made to be driven?
Any real horror story yet?

Cracking work as always V.
Would it worth welding plates on as a precaution to prevent cracking happening?
