What's cheap and effective lads exhaust wise?
Brasso, about a 5'er from any good supermarket.
I clean my stainless steel exhaust like this:
1) paraffin to remove soot/tar/crap
2) Silvo wadding to finish
Some people would use steel wool but it leaves lines imo. I've recently started using meguires metal polish which I find excellent but you still have to remove the tar/soot crap. Above is my most favoured option.
Autosol was also recommended?
What should I use, just a microfiber?
Thanks for replies
What grade steel wool? Have used 0000 grade on windscreens before without issue.
Use a rag for paraffin, then the wadding to polish and a clean soft to buff.
You will wreck the microfibre unless its a €2 shop one and ya don't care.
Autosol is overated they are all just mild abrasives.
The best mirror finish apart from a motorised polish comes from silvo and elbowgrease imho. I put alloy wheel sealent on after but it seems to make no difference haha
I used Autosol and 0000 grade steel wool on my eisenmann
Came up like new
Brillo pad + spit and grit :P:D
Sorry I should have said, I have 3 pieces I'm wanting to clean gents. Stainless manifold that is just dull no real dirt, a stainless decat that is caked and a stainless remus backbox that the tips are dull but the box is caked.
Want them all shiney before they get put together and put on the car if you get me

I could use my mind powers either :hehe!:Quote:

Not that I know off Enda as it's three seperate pieces I have picked up over a peroid of time. I'd be happy with clean and shiny as possible being honest.
Looks like you've gotten your answer already.
Id usually go with
De-Tar
Rinse
Steel Wool 0000 Grade with something like Autosol / Meg's NXT Metal Polysh
Old microfiber to wipe down the dirt that was lifted
Another microfiber with the metal polish on it
Buff to a high shine
Wet sanding can be an option before the steel wool if really bad!
If you have an electric drill you could invest in a kit like this

We do mirror polishing of stainless where I work and the materials are basically the same bar being on a larger scale.
If there were any scratches you would need to sand the surface to a high grit finish beforehand.
If you're just cleaning up existing mirror polish I've always found Autosol very good. Use it with a microfiber or some mutton cloth
Sorry to intrude, will the same methods work wiyh polished Aluminium?
As above, got this result with 0000 steel wool and autosol.
Was quite tarnished beforehand

Another vote for Autosol, been using it years without issue and good results. Just look at Don's pic! :D
Will see how I get on. If I can upload pics of the end result I will stick them here. Thanks for all the replies!
Don't use anything too harsh that will leave small scratches on the metal, down the line the dirt will creep into these scratches and fill them making it near impossible to keep on top of. Brill pad is a no no Gar :D
How about the 0000 grade ?Quote:

The shit is really caked on the decat. Can't seem to shift it and was afraid to get ninja on it's ass in case I did damage. I tried parafin to remove it but I may has well not as it didn't budge anything. Also tried a quick go of 0000 grade steel wool with no effect.
I've read over this thread again and while I was thinking carb cleaner maybe or petrol :surprised::hehe!: I see Curran has suggested to de tar. Halfords special or?
Any help greatly received

Also worth going through the different grades of sand paper if your arsed but usually you'll get good enough results with the above.
These took some sanding
