Motor Tax Office to Close
Clondalkin motor tax office will be closed permanently from December 24th.

So where in the hell are people supposed to go ? They closed Nutgrove a few years back.
I am not being funny here when i say the online system is no where near the required level to take over the load.
I mean it appears that you cant even declare a vehicle back on the road after you declare it off the road.
Apparently you can declare if off online but then are forced to go to the tax office with forms and declare it back on the road when the time comes.
Have the made any plans for this instance ? Bunch of Morons.

The spin being given in the media today is stomach turning. It's blatant lies. I know for a fact that this office was ear marked for closure as early as August. Today, Kathy Quinn lies and uses some unfounded stat (one which I do not believe for a minute) that the introduction of the NDLS combined with 70% of Dublin folk using the online renewal system is the cause?!
The real reason is that the welfare office next door needs more room, so they are taking over the tax office space. Now the spin on all this is that the online system is such a rip roaring success that they can roll over to it, and implement yet another saving to the exchequer? Please!

Im all for savings but not as the risk of an obviously required service.
You cant push people online without an adequate online solution.
Complete imbeciles behind this.
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
Definitely agreed on saving, however, what are the savings? The employees that curently man the tax office are being redeployed into other areas of Revenue and the building stays, but under the umbrella of Social Welfare.
110% agree with you on an adequate online service

It's not a saving if it costs jobs. Load of balls. Council saving money to protect the high earners. We're forced to tax our cars online and do their work and the savings do not get passed to us. I refuse to tax my car myself use a self service checkout have buffet dinner that costs more than €10 etc. It's all about cutting staff and rehiring others to do the same work on internships in their other offices. Don't even start me on internships. Scam scam scam. Angers me reading the pr spin as discussed above.
Sent forward in time from my Nokia 3210

Be nice to have the choice John not to be forced into it that's what I have the problem with.
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
Why would you want to go into the tax office??
Do you not like yourself?
Have you nothing better to do??
Close them all!!
Down with the Pubic Sector! :D (spelling)
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
Well seeing as there is someone on an internship doing the Job my sister got made redundant from a few years ago its close to home. It's the third time they have someone doing this particular internship so therefore they are talking advantage of the scheme. I can go tax my car in Ballinasloe in about 20mins. A fall in numbers using the Ballinasloe office would be only an excuse to close it as there is one in Galway. My cousins Fiance also works in the one in Ballinasloe. Honestly it's scraping the barrel cost savings they are not true cost savings at all. Cut the wages of the engineers who are on 80k for no reason.
At a time when jobs are low I try do all my services in person thus giving the people that work in them something to do. Except shopping though internet ftw.

No.
You have to send the tax disc away to the central tax office. You may be able to do it in the tax office but not the Post Office.
You can only buy the tax disc in the Post Office. And not all post offices do this either.
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
I'd love to be able to buy, run and tax something at a reasonable cost *ahem* John ^^ ;)
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
I suppose the McDonald's across the road will have to close too now that most of its customers have to go to Smithfield
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
Will be interesting to see elderly people trying to TAX their vehicles on line. Not everyone knows how to use PC's or Internet or even afford those kind of services. I mean this is modern day bullying if on line tax system ever some into effect and the option of taxing it at an office will be ruled out.
Re: Motor Tax Office to Close
You can still use the phone or post if you cant go online
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
I can't believe there are so many people on here moaning about a tax office closing. They should all be closed! How many of you saw the ridiculous queues out the doors in August or Sept. when the new off road system was coming in. This was a perfect example of a civil service organisation that couldn't plan a piss up in a brewery. All tax should be between online or the post offices.
The motor tax office has to be one of the clearest examples of what is wrong with the civil service, & what is wrong with this country. It absolutely makes me fume having to go in there (which I recently had to do to tax a commercial in a rush - can't do that online)
Just look at their opening hours - ridiculous. Look at their processing speeds per motorist.
When I was there recently I could see a guy in the back office processing an off road declaration - I kid you not, he spent >10 mins looking at 2 pages, during this time he nodded off a few times, picked his nose and ate that, nodded off again....it goes on.
Makes me livid that my taxes are being wasted paying these wasters to carry out useless non value administration tasks, in the most inefficient and backward manner that you could possibly think of with absolutely no customer focus whatsoever.

I suppose it makes sense but post office does have extended ques at most of time definitely more then tax offices. Definitely agree with the lack of work commitment form the people who work at such places same applies to Garda etc. ofcourse cant paint them all with the same brush but a lot definitely can. I am almost certain that those savings even when closed down would not be passed to the public either way.

You do realise the problem here is that there is no cost saving by closing?! The building is being used to expand the social welfare office next door and the employees are being redeployed, mainly back into the council offices...to do what I dunno. Where is the savings in that?
RE: Motor Tax Office to Close
Does anyone know if it's now possible to tax on-line in advance when putting it back on the road? The one saving grace of the tax office is that you could go in on the first day of the month, therefore not losing out, as you would do if waiting for the disc to be posted out

Not tried this for putting back on the road, but you could try the pin retrieval link.
