G20

Was over at the preview in Stillorgan yesterday where they had a pre-production G20 on display
Sorry for the poor phone pictures.

You'd easily recognise it as a 3 series as they haven't strayed too far from the norm.
Maybe an odd line or slash that is superfluous in the overall scheme of things.

Even though it was a pre-production car, interior is certainly a step up over the last version. This one was loaded with options such as laser lights, HUD, full digital display etc. And ill probably be crushed.
I drove an Alfa Giulia Veloce in December and was totally shocked at how good it was to drive. Really very very nice.

The new three has to drive better if BMW is to retain the 'ultimate driving machine'.

A rare colour on the e36. Sea green if I’m not mistaken. A crossover colour to the e46 but didn’t last too long on that.

The car has never been registered either, well wasn’t up until a few months ago anyway. As good as new.

Ah, I had always thought it was Morea Green. I wonder will they ever be able to put Irish plates on it.

I was chatting with them a few months ago and they had tried to register it with no success.

The wheels are also a fairly rare e36 fitment. Whats the story with the car? Was it just never registered or is there a bigger story?

As you do, you buy a couple of cars and just don’t really use them nor register them. Bought as they were wanted for the collection I believe.

It’s meergrün metallic, one of the best colours on an e36. There were a few nice examples about that I knew of in that colour, mostly 318is but I knew of one very nice 323i coupe...last I heard it got butchered by a drift monkey [emoji849]

The story I was told was that Frank picked up the car himself in Munich and personally drove it back to Dublin. The car had German export plates on it. When it

arrived in Dublin it was put into Frank's collection and they simply never bothered registering it. I think they are regretting that oversight today as the car is pretty

much unusable. There was talk of them trying to get it registered in the Isle of Man but so far it hasn't happened.

That E36 in that colour is IMO one of the sexiest cars BMW ever made. Would love to have one some day (not too bothered about what engine) but they seem to be incredibly rare. I can't seem to find any in that colour for sale on AutoTrader or PistonHeads.

Am I the only one who thinks it's rather underwhelming ? Daytona Violet, Fern Green or Aegean/Avus Blue are striking IMHO....

Colour is so subjective I guess. I must be one of the few people who doesn't like Estoril Blue for example.

The colours you mentioned above are great too, but there's something else about that Sea Green/Meergrün that does it for me!

It wouldn’t be my first choice of colour but this car is so stunning and smells of new E36 it just impresses at a very high level.

Possibly a stupid question, but why exactly can't they get it registered?

That's a tragedy. Surely there must be a workaround. What if they registered it in some other country first and then just imported it to here? Or would they have the same issue registering it elsewhere?

Wait until after Brexit and they may be able to do it in the UK, otherwise I'd imagine that the same issue will happen in any EU country as here as regards crash and emissions regs.
