Was only a matter of time to be honest will see them all whipped down from dungdeal soon
Just out of curiousity did your mate have it on donedeal or was he stopped recently
Wondering how they found him thought crossed my mind that they were cross checking systems like insured as 3.0 taxed as a 2.0 etc but that sounds quite an exhaustive way of doing it
That's it Gar. it doesn't affect me so not worried but the others should... ill have more on the story when a pal is on duty
Edit
No it wasn't dd or has he been stopped. I've just ran a few quotes on donedeal. A few e60s and e39s pop up but not many.
About time
Can someone explain why if they are not public service vehicles? Also where would they get this information? Have the nct centers been keeping note? It's not possible to get addresses etc from car forums as a rule. I wonder if they are getting this from the nct centers how this conforms to the data protection act? I'd be asking where they got there info and also can they seize / impound a car on the suspicion of it? Would it not be more an issue for revenue? Or is this a follow on media grab from the welded issue? So many questions
Its quite simple really for the majority of cars mainly 530d'sQuote:

Personally i couldn't care what people tax them as because its total robbery in ireland
But it will be interesting to see how it develops what happens and were it ends up
Nct discs say 520i, 523i, 530d, 330d ect ect.
they can see this in Shannon , they can get details of changed engines recorded in their system , it was just matter of time this would be sorted
Wonder where it leaves those with it insured and taxed wrong. "sure I'm not a mechanic and i bought it like that"
If it's a 530 and it's insured as a 520 then you're snookered really...i doubt pleading ignorance would get you outta that if there was a claim.
Anyway...anyone with a dodgy 530 knows exactly what they're doing
This had to happen sure the adds are madness, there are plenty of Guards into cars and looking through the various websites, think Done Deal would have the most though
I was thinking this too you might just be liable for back tax on it at the very least?Quote:

Well, this should have happened ages ago.
An interesting one is the batch of 645Ci that were registered as 3.0L by BMW Ireland in error.
This is all over the news today

Operation into under declaring of cubic capacity of car engines
The Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) Traffic Division have seized 18 cars as part of an ongoing investigation into the under declaring of cubic capacity of the car engine in order to pay a lower motor tax rate.
One male was arrested and charged with fraud and theft offences and appeared on the 10th March 2015 at The Criminal Courts of Justice, No. 4, and is remanded on continuing bail to appear on the 21st April at the same court.
DMR Traffic have carried out an investigation for the last number of weeks which culminated in the seizure of 11 cars last Saturday, the 7th March, 4 on Sunday, the 8th and 3 on the 10th – total 18.
While this initial stage of the operation involved 18 BMW cars the scam involves luxury cars from a wide range of manufactures.
Investigations are ongoing, in each case it is suspected that a false declaration was made to the relevant Motor Taxation Office understating the size of the car engine. Each of the cars will now be examined by the Public Service Vehicle Inspector. DMR Traffic will liaise closely with Department of Environment in terms of Motor Tax and Customs and Excise in regards to having the vehicle tested for illegal diesel.
DMR Traffic will also be liaising with the insurance companies involved as this scam raises issues in relation to the validity of insurance, safety of the vehicle due to possible modifications of the engine and lose of revenue to the state in terms of road tax.
Gardai wish to make the following appeal “those involved to immediately regularise the situation with their local tax office, insurance company and An Garda Siochana” (current insurance may not be valid). An Garda Siochana would also remind people purchasing cars to ensure that the Vehicle Licensing Certificate reflects the correct engine size.
Motorists engaging in this type of activity are advised that they are open to having their vehicle detained and being prosecuted in Court.

Gardaí have discovered a multi-million euro fraud linked to the registration of luxury cars.
Hundreds of these cars have been registered with lower engine capacities using false documentation to pay less tax and insurance.
So far 18 BMWs have been seized, but gardaí have also identified fraudulently registered Range Rovers, Mercedes, Lexus, Volkswagens and Jaguars.
It amounts to an estimated fraud of over €2 million.
They say the offence carries a maximum of up to five years in prison and are warning those who may have such cars to contact them.
The investigation began after gardaí from the traffic unit at Dublin Castle discovered that the tax discs on some three-litre luxury cars recorded their engine capacity as less than two litres.
The cars had been registered using false documentation and garage stamps. While less insurance was paid, the loss to Revenue averaged around €800, but was over €1,000 per year in many cases.
Detectives say the scam has been carried out by individual motorists and in some cases organised through motor dealers.
One man has been charged and appeared before the courts but gardaí say further arrests are expected.
looks like they mean business..pain in the arse for people caught up in this.
Eh isn't that the 2.0l M3 that was for sale in a dealer in Balbriggan? Attachment 4470

Being one of the mugs paying €1809 a year (511 per quarter or €2044 a year), a small part of me is pleased that its going to be back on a level playing field again. The tax is ridiculous, there's nothing else that can be said about it, but if I've to pay it for the privilege of owning an M3, so should everyone else.
I considered doing it myself, but just thought it wasn't worth the hassle in the end as it was bound to come to an end! It'll be interesting to see what comes of all this ! It's been going on for years but thanks to donedeal etc, it's just more obvious with people flaunting it in their ads. I personally knew a guard who has a 2002 R32 golf, declared as a 1.8. I wonder would they seize his car off private property....
Just got stopped , checked the tax disc , checked the badge on the back , asked him if there's a problem , He just said carry on , are they gonna hunt every big car down now or what?

This, imo, is just making noise. In the long term it can't be controlled. It's got the attention it deserves but we are speaking about an organisation that is corrupt to the core ie the gov pushing to reduce tax fraud. I don't beleive they have the resources, the will or the information to put a halt to this in general. Time will tell i'm sure
the rally of the lakes will be very very interesting , from welded diffs to engine swaps
They are saying there to contact the Garda if your an owner of a vehicle that is involved, would this just trap you or would they give you some sort of time to change the particulars etc

Hey presto! That's the m3 from Hartfords in balbriggan.
I'd imagine it's cars that have their logbook changed to a lower cc that they are going for as opposed to conversions that have increased the cc
If they have looked back at all the change of vehicle particulars forms that reduced the cc of the vehicle its easy enough to generate a list of cars that can be out on pulse to be pulled over next time they pass an ANPR car.
Only the obvious misdeclared cars will be a target. Like for like engine swaps resulting in more displacement will never be found. Ie: M54b22 to M54b30
That m3 is going to be famous. Making a cameo on the 6 o'clock news!:tounge:
If you think they will pass up an opportunity to get more money from the public you can think again its the one thing they excel atQuote:

Another big brother attitude to screw people, I don't personally think it's a big deal to have 2.0 tax if your properly insured as a 3.0?
€710 isn't cheap to begin with anyway? Never mind the double if it's a 3.0 to €1400!!!!:surprised:
Why also do people have the hater attitude of "if I can't do it, why can you?"
THE LAW AND THE GOVERNMENT IS AN ASS.
Still doesn't change the fact that it's fraud and if you get caught it's the price you pay for taking the risk. I have no problem with people doing it, but don't really have too much sympathy if they get caught.Quote:
