Did anyone notice the McManus lad from Limerick on Chasing Classics cars? S9 E5 he is on the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance in his Ferrari 365 California.
Was watching that one day and asked my "what was the name of the chap you know in NYC with all the cars?" He came in to the room and who was on the screen? The chap dad knows.
Look up Peter Kalikow. Serious Ferrari collector. Ferrari has made him special edition 612. Incredible collection in the basement of his skyscraper.
Last time I was there I didn't appreciate the collection. Would love to get back.
Had a 250 GTO. His navy Enzo just arrived. 355. F50 (the F40 was in Florida). Had to go through 3 different security check to get to the garage.
Disgusting wealth. But donated greatly to Crumlin hospital.
I was thinking about taking the M6 off the road for a month. Long story, but there’s a good reason!
If I make an off the road declaration for 3 months (the minimum allowed) and then decide after month 1, (i.e. 1st day on months 2) to put the car back on the road will I get hit for the tax for month one?
Anyone done it?
The text on the website says minimum declaration is 3 months. It also says that you can cancel the declaration at any time by renewing your tax in your local motor tax office – the validity of the tax disc will commence from the first day of the month in which you tax the vehicle.
No, fire ahead. I’ve done it lots of times, especially if I think I’ll be travelling a lot.
So tomorrow declare off the from 1st Feb for any period up to a year (I generally do it for a year) Then on 1st March log into Motortax.ie and tax it again if you like and it’ll automatically cancel the OTR declaration
Cheers John. Similar thought process, €150 better in my pocket than theirs.
Great to see the forum post numbers picking up, feels busier these days!
Oh, more importantly....4 more days....v10 vroom!
Defo more activity, not just here but on all the forums. Guys buying more cars, guys getting cars out of storage. I suppose it goes with more economic activity. Certainly I am a lot more active this weather, and looking forward to spring and summer, do some detailing and get out driving. I am also seeing a lot more nice car out on the road, people buying a golf R rather than a normal golf etc. Glad to see it, after a decade of crap we all deserve a break.
Sure there's a grand stretch in the evenings now, allowing people to even get a quick wash in after work! :p And a few pay days since Xmas too, so people are buying a few bits they had to hold off on!
Only 10 months to Christmas!
Saw a Nissan ad on my Facebook feed......... couldn’t help reporting it as offensive :D
Aero grill arrived for the Mini , opened it to find it scratched and I don’t know if it’s worth sending back and waiting for a new one[emoji19] is that just been picky ?

You do know you have to modify the lower grille in order to fit it?

I did it on my Cooper S. the best method o found was scribing the plastic with a Stanley knife. The Dremel method only worked OK, so switched to scoring the plastic with a knife and then snapping it off with a pliers.

I’ll have to order a set from him so[emoji1303] the current ones have the dealer name attached to the plate and should have been changed long ago!
I was thinking of fitting the plate directly to the bumper, as in remove the factory holder/surround. Dec has it done and it looked tidy at the tullamore c&c.

What's the XDrive system like in the snow?
By all accounts its good, but it will only offset the laws of physics up to a point I would imagine.
I’ve been using the wife’s E83 the last two days with one or two rescue missions involved.
Very impressed with it, didn’t miss a beat. The combo of manual gearbox, torquey Diesel engine and good tyres that are not massive (I think 235) made it a perfect weapon for the current weather.
Passing fwd cars on hills whilst sipping a nice cup of coffee was my highlight :D

Good winter tyres and 225 square set up is seeing me nicely around in the e92. Giving me smug satisfaction seeing fwd cars on summer tyres stuck :D Have to disable the traction control sometimes though and drive around with DTC on the rest of the time.
The X3 is a great bit of kit when coupled with the all season factory spec tyres. The mrs has been in and out a few times today and no issues. Btw thanks for the coffee review [emoji1]
As for the neighbour is his fancy new Xdrive 530d, it’s a fail.

Out my way its bad, my wife can't get out of the drive in her megane gt! Traction becomes an issue when starting from a stop on a steep incline, disabling the traction control comes into play here. Other than than DTC is great, little bit of slide without being too hampering, its all about maintaining momentum and making slow adjustments. Not a hope I would have gotten 200m in summer tyres!
Pretty bad here in tullamore, no bother to the a4 on summer tyres 🤣

Just seen this pic of the main Tullamore to Kilbeggan road if your looking to test any xdrive system... or even a tractor [emoji23]
