I was thinking that. A bit pricey for they key there.

Yeah, owned by VW UK for the first year and then one private owner in NI. The mileage at the changeover from VW to the private owner (8k) would suggest it wasn't a daily rental or the like. I'm not fully clued in on VW std spec's but it has satnav, BT, heated seats, active cruise control, reversing camera, auto lights/wipers, driver profile modes, curly wurly door mirrors, slightly more sporty looking seats, a velour type upholstery and plenty more. I suspect some of these may come as part of a Winter Pack. As a 2.0, it has the multi-link rear suspension rather than the torsion beam and by reports that seems to be worthwhile.
So far, so good. Today she's loaded it up with her exercise paraphnalia so we'll see how it fits that role. If that's positive, the next measure of success (or not!) will be swallowing her bike and all of that gear.
The only notable spec step back from the e91 or f31 is that the aircon is manual, but since that's pretty much what Mrs D did with the e91 Auto Climate anyway, its not much of a problem. A 318d Touring of the same age and miles would probably have cost €4k+ more and honestly I'm not convinced its worth that premium bearing in mind issues like timing chains, never mind spec. I never thought I'd say that.
Shakes head disapprovingly....:p
An Octavia vRS Estate (with the very good TFSi lump) would have been a good requirement fit either, but I agree - BMW have not made a good 4 pot petrol since the late 90's and certainly none made for longevity. Not sure how the newer 4 pot petrol turbos will fare with longer term use - I suspect they will become prohibitively expensive to maintain once over a certain age/mileage, meaning their values will plummet.
Over the weekend (Galway to North West Mayo & Back - 300km's+) and moving on when needed, the OBC showed 7.0L/100km or just over 40mpg in the Lexus - I find that staggering in a V6 petrol.
Never thought I'd see the day when I was discussing the fuel efficiency of a car with such enthusiasm.....:p
That is pretty decent alright! Agreed about the consumption enthusiasm, but I suppose those are the times we're living in.
There is a slightly perverse pleasure though in driving something with plenty of horses, driving it well AND get some decent numbers. This bloody Golf might just go and spoil it all though - I can't see the e60 getting within an asses roar of the 55-ish mpg at the end of the run back from Belfast on Saturday, even with a "Driving Miss Daisy" style :). When I used the e60 to go look at the car in Belfast the previous weekend I filled it in the morning and filled it again from the low fuel light in the evening on the same day. The Golf did the run back and has done a few runs around since and was still showing between 1/2 and 2/3 full this morning, and I'd guess the tank is less then the 70 litres on the e60. After 21 years of BMW straight 6's, that's a bit of a culture shock!
:)
Its alright, I won't have to drive it too much! It does mean that I now have all of my cars back, instead of having to share. I happily share many things with Mrs D but we'll both be happier now that she once again has a car of her own that fits her needs more completely than any of mine!
