Hey guys, first post here but I have been hovering in the background! My 2008 e60 is booked in for 9am on Monday morning in Murphy&Gunne's and I got a text today confirming the appointment.
Obviously it's almost 6 now so I don't think I need to worry about it being cancelled, but I wonder will I just get a reassuring pat on the shoulder or will it get a thorough looking at?
Also if they say it's no problem, all good and then something happens in 10/20k down the road will I have any comeback?
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
It's M&G who first told my brother that the recall is suspended. He rang Frank Keanes who said the exact same thing.
I'd imagine you're one of the last to get it done and given you have a booking it'll go ahead.
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
Hopefully so kdevitt. Car only has 115k on it and no rattling sounds. I only rang up about the recall as I saw it posts on boards.
I had been advised to change it at 150k anyhow and that had been my plan until this recall came up.
I will find out what I can on Monday and post here. My sister also had a 2010 e60 and my dad a 12 f10 both with n47 engines and I had given in their vin numbers but was told that there was no recall for those years yet, although that was three months ago.
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
Ok folks, so here is the update.
Brought the car in yesterday morning and it was confirmed the recall had finished and they were just clearing the backlog.
Got a call back around 3pm to say my car would need the chain changed and they would apply to BMW for goodwill to change it but wouldn't have an answer for 24/48 hours.
If it goes ahead it will be two weeks before I can be fitted in.
Some good news for others though when I collected the car the lady said that the recall had been reinstated again by BMW.
Top marks to her though she seemed very nice to deal with.
As an aside my courtesy car was a 216d.I dont know who would buy one of these. Was very skittish on the slightly greasy roads yesterday morning and didn't have the power to pull you out of bed. It just seemed to me to be a Quashqai with a nice interior and a BMW badge.

The 2 Series Active Tourer thing is front wheel drive too.

Haha yeah I figured that out fairly quick when it started to spin it's front wheels at the first set of lights like a Honda I had when I was a young lad with 17" wheels and Nankang tyres!
Was a bit confused for a second and then remembered reading on boards last year that they were releasing a fwd car.
To be honest I didn't even know what it looked like when I walked out the front door to get it and had to press the key fob to see what car would flash it's lights.
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
My brother just rang M&G to book it in. They said they've had no notification from BMW at all, and the recall is still suspended!
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
Wow,I don't know what to say. That is definitely what the lady I was dealing with told me and she even took my sisters vin number to check her car but it wasn't due a recall yet.
Was any other dealer (eg Joe Duffy out Frank Keane) doing these recalls?
If so would it be worth calling them to see if they have it reinstated?

Frank Keanes had previously told him the recall was cancelled too. Have told him to contact BMW Ireland instead and see what they have to say about it.
RE: Recall on 2 Ltr Diesel timing chains
Quick update - my brother didn't get a chance to get in touch with BMW Ireland, but got a call from M&G to say they were booking him in for the work. So thankfully his will get the work done anyway.
