Yes indeed Valdas, I don't think I'll find a better specced 335i saloon with as little miles from a main dealer with 2 year warranty for anywhere near what I'll be paying on the 335d.

135i coupe would have been my preference too but sadly probably less space for prams etc compared to my own E46 :(
The one I had my eye on has sold now anyway, so will have to look at other options
Things I would look for in 335d
- still running awful Bridgestone runflats?
- 225 style 19s are super prone to cracking
- are swirl flaps removed
- any errors wrt glowplugs or DPF not regenerating could be pricey as sub frame needs to be removed to take DPF out if it cant be regened/cleaned in situ
- small oil leak from red boost pipe on LHS of engine common, easy fix
- larger oil leak from intercooler pipe also common
- oil leak from turbo potentially lethal
- regular servicing plus history crucial
Lovely engine, responds very well to custom remap, c 350 bhp plus 8.4l/100km isnt too shabby. Really needs better suspension (eg Birds) plus LSD to get the most from the engine and improve ride/handling to where it should be.
PM if you need another 5c :-)
Thanks for the input there, much appreciated.
Can anyone confirm if I bring in a May 08 registered car from the UK, will it be on the CO2 tax system?
From the FAQs on Revenues website, I understand it will be on the CO2 system, just wanna check
It looks like 1st July was the cut off for CO2.

I know that pre-July registered cars has a choice of moving to the CO2 or sticking with the engine cc rates at the time this change came in. From the rates document linked above (dated 1st Jam 2016, effective date) it doesn't mention a thing about a choice, could be one of them things that needs a phone call, or better still written confirmation. Or maybe someone who has actually imported a pre-July, 2008 car and actually got the CO2 rate...
EDIT: This site suggests that the choice exists for cars Jan-Jun 2008:

Thanks for that, until I get it confirmed I'll be cautious, but it looks promising.
Also, has anyone experience with getting a warranty on a used car? If so, are they worth taking out?
I've read so many conflicting versions online - has anyone done it?

What happens to 2008 cars registered abroad and subsequently registered in
Ireland on or after 1 July 2008?
Cars registered outside of the State on or after 1 January 2008 and subsequently
registered in the State on or after 1 July 2008 will have their motor tax based on the new
CO2system.
Spoke with them on the phone and they said it would be assessed on whatever rate is cheaper
