A lot of the lads just drove there own cars on Irish plates last time I lived there. A lot of them weren't even taxed. I was about your age and I picked up an E34 525i sport [emoji41] from a guy on bmw5 it was about 1k to insure it, tesco were the cheapest at the time. You can swap your licence for a UK one for £50 .Quote:

I know a girl who thinks it's only for cars that are ten years or older...what makes even less sense is she has an 01 that's never had an NCT :huh:Quote:

Bit of useless info :D
That's not true. 5252 is a mathematical constant. I'll explain its derivation.Quote:

5252 is the culmination of a few factors required to go from lbft to hp.
550 food-pounds per second = 1 horsepower - note the per second, which you will get by multiplying torque by engine speed.
The only issue with that is that engine speed is Revolutions Per Minute and we need per second, so we just divide by 60.
The next piece of information one needs is the dimensionless unit for revolutions, a radian. I'm sure everyone remembers this but a radian is a ratio of the length of an arc divided by the length of the radius, which leaves you with the dimensionless ratio.
One revolution is 360 degrees. Circumference of a circle is 2*Pi*Radians. So converting RPM to radians per second you use the following formula.
((2*Pi)/60) = 0.10472 radians per second
This is just a unit conversion that gives us the per second engine speed.
Now if we divide 550 foot-pounds (1 horsepower) by 0.10472 we get 5252
Its basically converting revolutions per minute to the dimensionless radians per second and lb/ft to foot-pounds per second.
Thanks for the further explanation Dave, wont an engines horsepower still equal its torque at 5250rpm? How is that not true?
No, horsepower as a a measurable force doesn't actually exist, its calculation is dependent on torque.Quote:

Thanks again, but I'm still confused! I get that Power = torque * angular speed, 5252 is a constant used for converting torque to horse power. But everything I'm looking at now states that torque should equal horsepower at 5252 rpm? (less if its metric horsepower)Quote:

So right now I'm sitting on a plane that's about to take off from the states to come home. As usual I'm in an aisle seat
A family has just gotten on board, mum, dad and 3 small kids. The only problem is the 3 kids are in the same row as me directly across the aisle and the parents are siting is different rows, one in front and the other the row behind.
Already I think it's going to be a looooong 7 hours! How much do baby sitters charge these days anyway?!
who let U fly alone without parents ??? :hehe!::hehe!:Quote:
