RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Just looked at the red one I hadn't seen it for a while now price isn't that unrealistic now good spec not a great colour combo but that could be easily fixed later black on red be nice has decent spec too
Anyway the reason im back in the thread is the cars nct'd and the miles are gone up iirc indicating the cars on the move and not sitting up , definitely worth a view before the hassle of going the uk

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Not an E39, but any interest in a '04 E46 325i SE touring auto black on black only 40k miles?

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
I wanted to have a look at the red 530d about a year ago but he said his wife was driving it at the time and it wasn't in the showroom but that if i wanted to see it I could. I went elsewhere instead.

http://cars.donedeal.ie/view/6912026 a bit dear but maybe a price drop due once he realises he overpriced it

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Its not easy alright! I think I'm set on an e39 for the moment. I'll keep waiting and hopefully can put some cash aside and increase the budget a bit if nothing comes up. I don't think id going for a budget x5, I'd be scared it would bankrupt me in the end

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Front + rear bumper
Paint
Machine polish
Tyres
Brakes
Almost impossible to tell from the pictures but at an absolute minimum id guesstimate 2k
On the other side of the coin get them to tax it for the year that would give you 1500e toward maintenance
If it needs a full respray you could be at really big money though in no time ,suspension could be shagged at 150k too
-
E39 touring buying advice?
I'd say you'll be closer to €4k unless you're doing the labour yourself. I put €5k into a touring a few year back that looked quite well initially.

E39 touring buying advice?
Bumpers - 400 ish
Wheel refurb - 400
Paint 3k - 4k
Suspension overhaul - 2.5k
Engine work (this is a guess but I'd factor it anyway) - 1k
So I would say anywhere between 5k and 7k to get it respectable

BUT yet someone will buy it because of the cheap tax :D:D
What about an se touring? Easier to come by, good bit cheaper then Msports so plenty of money to play about with then for Msport bits
Quick look on DD
Here is an se with Msport interior and steering wheel by looks of things, needs body tidying and rear window (insurance ;))
http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-520i-estate/6882512
And a se with Msport bumper

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Cheers gar, unfortunately that one is pre facelift so no isofix for the child seats
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Its facelift alan 525i was facelift only
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Can't see isofix points and the steering wheel looks pre facelift?
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Wasn't standard on facelift unless maybe really late e39's iv a facelift with no isofix that wheel was used until late 01 on facelifts
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Ok. I thought Isofix was standard on touring facelift, I know it wasn't standard on the saloons.
Is it still considered a facelift with the old wheel so?
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Sorry not sure on tourings , but yep 100% facelift engine lights all round and whatever other little bits were different
Seems they came in standard from 02 on http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13557

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Interesting, That narrows my search even more so.

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Off to see this one at the weekend. Spoke with garage and seems to meet most of the requirements and cheap too.

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Off to see this one at the weekend.
Seems to meet a lot of requirements (just missing sport seats, black headlining and zenons)
Half the price and Cheaper tax than a 530d and low mileage
Few scuff marks but hopefully nothing I'd be worried about.
Garage are putting it through the nct too which ia minor but handy anyway.

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Sports seats are handy enough you only need fronts plenty out there id say
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Is it missing the grilles in the front grille?
Also, on the ISOFIX.....not all of them have the plastic flip open covers to reveal the fitting. Mine has ISOFIX and I have to lift the bottom of the seat back to reveal them. Thought I hadnt got it until I seen it on the Spec list, quick look and sure enough, hiding behind!
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
That's good to know about the isofix. I usually ring the seller's if i can't see the covers as it's hard to tell in photos and I've never come across one without covers. So i could have missed a car on that basis.
Not very familiar with the se front. Will look at a few pics before i go see it. Planning to replace it anyway but worried if it had a bump
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Main pic in the ad - the kidney grilles look like they are missing the slats.
Yeah, just put your hand in where the seat bottom meets the seat back, and pull it up, you should see two U shaped bars, welded to the body, and the ISOFIX latches onto them....not as fancy as the tailored fittings, but they are handy to have! :)
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Grills are in place ,you talking about the kidneys dave ?
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Hmmm maybe it's just the shadow?
I didn't spot it until you said it and seller never mentioned it on the phone

I'll go look at it if you want Alan

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Waterford one is gone already. Seller was a bit cagey so not too bothered.
Big thanks to Dave for offer to view on my behalf
Going to look at the celbridge one tomorrow.
@gar UK one is lovely but miles maybe a little high plus it's manual
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Looks nice very nice in fact 525i touring auto facelift great colour combo body looks to be in good condition nice shine off the paint definitely worth a look http://www.adverts.ie/5824062

RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Was talking with him earlier. History is a bit weird and he's not the owner.
Knows nothing about the car and isn't sure if it has isofix or not. Airbag light is on but apparently no other issues. Bumper was repainted but says it's a good job.
Have agreed to look at it tomorrow if the celbridge one doesn't work out. Not sure about it based on the above
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Selling for a relative perhaps ? Iv done it before definitely worth a look alan anyways there's not a lot out there dont get too hung up on history either if it runs and sounds right thats the main thing at 1300-1400e history becomes irrelevant id be more interested in recent reciepts etc
I know its hard to judge a car by pics alone but imo it looks like someone took good care of that car at some stage of its life

At that age & price I'd be more concerned with standard now than history. It prob needs a Pcv, rocker cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket at a minimum. Buy an ebay occupancy sensor bypass and that'll knock out your lights. Whatever you buy you'll have to spend a bit on it.
To find out about isofix you could ask him to text a photo of the chassis no?
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
Says he bought through a garage that took it as a trade in to try make money on it. I'm not worried about service history just that the car and sale is legit.
I lost a lot of money before by giving the seller the benefit of the doubt so I'll be 100% sure before I hand over cash.
-
RE: E39 touring buying advice?
I'm just going to have a look and speak with who evers name is on the book. I'll see what the story is and Valdas will be checking anything before I buy.
I've no bother hopping on the bike to go look at cars just hard to get the time!
