RE: What did you do to your car today
Replaced the CSB on the driveshaft, Old one was worn and there was some movement in the shaft.

While i was there i decided to upgrade to a short shifter. OEM shifter from an E60 545i.
The difference is literally night and day. Shifting is so much more 'exact' and feels like how the car should have done the day it left the factory.
Always wondered what BMW were thinking when they put that length shifter on the E46 M3, and a different one on the Z4M, it makes no sense.
Anyways the E60 one is plug and play, not modifications required its as if it was built for the car.

Short shifters are the business :) Wonder why the Z Ms always seem to have a shorter shift than others, I have the Z3M one in the e36 and it never gets old how short/precise it is! :D

How clean is the underside?:cool: How long did it take you to fit the shifter?

Literally should have done this 3 years ago. Its such a level of marked improvement, she feels like a totally different car.

Shifter wenton, in about 10-15 mins. The trickiest part was twisting the old shifter bearing out. Its a plastic ring that locks into place to hold the shifter in place. There is some OEM BMW tool available but you can twist the old one out with two small flat heads and some clockwise turning. Clips come loose and it pulls up.
It was easier because i had the exhaust / heat shields and drive shaft out for the CSB change.
But can be done from inside the car with a bit of trickier gear play (reverse and first i believe)
