This is most likely a broken wire inside the rubber conduit that goes between the car body & the boot lid. Worth having a look in there & trying to re-join the wires. Seen it on a few e46, 3e39 & e90. Wouldn't be surprised if it also affected e60 too. The number plate lights are the most obvious item to cause problems but boot release also suffers.Quote:

I have a boot mechanism off an e46 at home, it was working fine before it came off, you're more than welcome to it, to take apart and use the switch or whatever if it suits the e39! It's the rubber part on the outside, switch that's in it, lock and cables and a white plastic release bar of some sort.Quote:

But failed on driver side tie rod end and ball joint on driver side (on the arm i presume ?) Also headlight alignment
No biggy valdas put me wide to the track end last year so iv a brand new set of full tie rod assemblys in the press and i dont mind doing bits to the suspension as i was doing it anyways
