Thanks lads. Im hoping it won't be shit like the rest of them.
Its 03 lh 5369 and he said he took the image from google as hes in work.
Not that many around so want kill me to spin over
well i adore em . absolutely love my 2003 E39 525d touring . comfortable nice to drive and unbelievably handy , id honestly find it hard to go back to a saloon . dont expect great mpg though from the auto box max of 35 if you drive miss daisy around i average 32-33 it doesnt really change no matter what i do . other than the air suspension on the back they are the same as any other E39 for reliability
but that ad would ring alarm bells just from the pic he put up . generally if i see a car for sale that doesnt show the reg and only has one pic i figure he has something to hide
Agreed on potentially something to hide. Just a matter of figuring out what it might be.
its 15 mins away so handy to have a look
thanks for the mileage figures. Nothing too scary there.
I couldn't live with a saloon either :)
Go check it out alan everything is worth viewing theres always that chance of that diamond in the rough and considering the number of e39 tourings is miniscule at best everyone of them should be viewed , keep us informed with how you get on
Thanks Gar. Viewing this evening.
There's a full set of photos on donedeal now.
doesn't look perfect but I'm not looking for a garage queen either.
Apart from the shit wheels it looks well genuine sport , good colour combo and good spec heated seats nav etc
Yeah, factory fitted xenons, auto lights, and I can't be sure but I think the mirrors might me auto folding.
Wheels aren't great. Mpars would go well.
Front bumper looks to have an m5 grill, does it?
Not an m5 grill just the t bar removed, you'll see what I mean when you actually look at it in the flesh
Love the colour of that 530d! From experience, when buying a used beemer of a certain age, im always prepared to have at least 1k set aside to get it right. This way there wont be any panic. If the car turns out to be relatively hassle-free (like the last e39 Touring i bought, tg) then that budget can go towards lollies for her. Wheels, ICE, detailing, underbody seal, etc. Nice women need nice things, nice cars are no different, eh? lolol
Best of luck with gettin the car you want, Al. Keep us posted.
Change the wheels, get it detailed and potentially that could be a very nice car!
Hope the viewing goes well Alan!
So, had a good look today. Seller is sound but young lad and not really familiar with the car.
Good points.
Spec is great.
Interior is spotless
Engines compare well with other 30d cars ive driven. Feels strong though the revs. Gear change are smooth.
Has plenty of options, more then my m5 had.
Bad points
Scuffs on boot / Dings on door
Unbelievable amount of front end stone chips/ Small bit of rust on rear o/s quarter
Tyres need changing
horrendous front end shudder under braking at any speed
No history/receipts available other than inspections like clockwork. Suspension / swirl flaps / gearbox dont seem to have been touched
Overall I can live with the exterior. Its a family car so I'm happy enough as long aa its one piece. I can't live with the shudder so that needs to be sorted. (Im thinking control arms? or maybe just discs?) The car itself ticked a lot of boxes for me. Seller is planning to address mechanical issues ahead of nct.
Having looked at a few from a distance i think this may be as good as it gets for the e39 touring in Ireland and am considering buying it. Other option is hanging on or going to the uk but price difference is massive given the low tax over there.
I know a lot on here won't touch cosmetically challenged cars but what do you think? Would I be mad to buy one without the big preventive stuff done.
Go for it sounds minor to be honest all e39's are well over the 10yr mark now and all need work done no matter what
Chuck them wheels and pick up 17" sport wheels or better yet mpars so tyres wouldn't matter
Whats the mileage on it did you run a cartell on it
Just under 150k miles on it.
No cartell done yet. Are they worth it on a car this age?

Up to you really I think its 20e well spent you never know what could pop up ,cat c or d intergalactic mileage etc
Good point. Came back all clear. No finance outstanding. Mileage checks out. Never written off.

Hmmmm
Asked seller to check into the weird sunroof switch gear and turns out the whole thing is a retro fit job. It seemed to work well but i didn't pay much attention for leaks, rust, drafts.
Would a retro fit sun roof be a disaster? I don't hear good things about them

It would be an absolute deal breaker for me. It will turn into a nightmare if it shows any problems later.Quote:

If your heart is set on an e39 touring I'd talk to Valdas, Conor or someone in the trade about keeping an eye out for one, get one from the uk, or get a petrol one from Japan.
Thanks. I'll keep looking for another while.
UK ones just don't seem to be as good value when you add in exchange rate, transport, vrt and fees. At this end of the market it's a loss maker? Guess it can be made up for in condition

I suppose condition and less headaches would counter any bargains in a way.
there are currently 3 530d sport facelift for sale
the one i started this thread about
this one - http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-5-series-530-td-e39-05dr-hi-spec-m/3510499
which is for sale for about 3 years now
and this one - http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2003-530d-m-sport-individual/7036407
which looks like it needs a fortune spent on it to get it presentable.
i would look at an engine other than the 530d in the right car and this is the only sport facelift on offer http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw/6769406
i think its a members car here so Id asume its well looked after but the honda blue + black wheels are not for me. the lpg conversion would not add value for me either.
if anyone knows of any others for sale (good mechanical + ok cosmetic) facelift e39 sport toruings let me know
yes, i'll have to do some maths on it, seems to be about 4-5k for a UK car vs 2.5-3.5k for an irish oneQuote:

I have put 36k on my car and outside of modifications it's been a tremendously cheap car to own, it's only costing me money now as I'm overhauling a lot of the perishable items.
If I were looking for another E39 I wouldn't even bother looking in Ireland.
Good ones very rarely come up for sale; thats for sure!! But thats because the owners of the good ones are holding onto them.Quote:

all food for thought, problem for me is that im not looking for something perfect so will not have the cash to buy a spotless low miler uk model for 6-7k.
this means everything will need to be checked out as much as possible before committing so probably limited to buying something in ireland purely as i will need to get a good test drive in before i make a decision.
that being said, i probably would be more prepared to take a gamble on a UK forum owned car so will keep an eye out as best i can.
525d Touring for sale in NI. No idea when the ad was posted. Just thought i'd pass it on.

cheers, looks clean, but its an SE and coming in at close to €5k
seems very strong money to me?
Does anyone know if there is any history with the red one, apart from the seller looking for crazy money....instead of asking a reasonable price for it in the first place - he'd have sold it for more than he's looking for it now, if he hadnt been so greedy - wasnt it up at 8k at one stage?
Anyways - worth going for a look at it and if its a runner, telling him you know its been for sale for ages, and you were willing to do a deal, but that he's off the mark a fair bit on the price!
about all i know is that it has been consistently over priced for a number of years. ive just assumed its not really for sale.
will give him a call over the weekend unless anyone knows the story with it?
One major concern is that its sitting up for at least 3 years now , id imagine brakes and all fluids would need changing before it goes anywerw its probably on the same tank of juice is well since 2011
My thoughts as well, Al. Price could be negotiated, perhaps.Quote:

That one with all the bits fallen off, i wouldn't bother.
Personally, i quite like the (honda)blue one.
That red one is for sale a LONG time now he was looking for €6995 for it a year and a half ago when i got mine id say hed do a deal on it just to get rid .
There is a nice 2003 530d Sport in phoenix park parked close to the zoo entrance these days.
Might be worth dropping a note on the windscreen to see if he is selling.
